This painting uses scattered composition to depict a realist scene: Pedestrians rushing through the streets in the evening. Though in a rush, we could still catch a glimpse of their eyes. In them we see no passion for life or leisure but instead a devotion to a practical work life day in and day out. The artist portrays this scene with a bold tone, underlining the realism in his depiction.
